question:

I've made an emote (rare for me), and when I exported the file from Fireworks where it was created, the transparency setting left a little bit of a rough edge around the border--any advice or feedback on how to fix that? [link] if you want to take a look at what I'm talking about...

This problem happens very often for emoticons. You saved the image in GIF format and GIF only has two levels of transparency: transparent and non-transparent. Everything within these two is converted to solid gray or grey. You should take it to a program like Ulead Gif Animator, Jasc Animation Shop or even Fireworks if it can (I've never used Fw) and use the eraser tool in EVERY pixel that should be transparent. That's the most effective way to solve this.

oh, brilliant! Yeah, FW would be capable of this, at least, as far as I know. I'll give it a shot. Thanks! :)

You're welcome. And if you are able to save the image in PNG from Fireworks, that could also solve transparency issues. I'm not an expert, but I know that PNG has an additional feature in comparison to GIF. It saves an "alpha" channel, that means it can handle multiple levels of transparency.

Right, still learning about all that stuff, thanks for the tips. Cute emotes in your gallery, too; I took a peak. A level of skill I can aspire to! :)
